San Diego Home Garden Show 2012
This Display was a collaboration between Akana Design and Glorious Gardens. The display had to be installed within 3-1/2 days. We spent a total of 34 hours installing it and we had one day to break it down.
The inspiration for this year's display was a Moroccan themed display as seen in this photo.

The Space |
Never under estimate the power of imagination when combined with Legos. This was the conceptual model for the show. Of course we had drawings too. (Note the Hawaiian girl in the model - that was the fine touch of Kristi Beach)
Dirt is brought in |
The dirt is spread around. |
The whole first day is dedicated to building structures and placing large trees that dirt can be put in around within the display areas.
Note the trees in the background are 24" box trees sitting on the concrete floor. Then 2 feet of dirt is piled around them and the base of our wall.
Nearly done - only fine touches are left. |
Note the wall itself is built on stilts so that it sits on the concrete floor but appears to be sitting on the raised dirt.
Wall and bench are built. |
Thankfully the fountain worked since we sealed it into the wall. |
Fire pit, rocks and plants are inserted. |
Two designers were on location to add to the finishing touches.
The Final Touches added. |
6 Ribbons were won. |
Awards Won - 3rd Place Best of Show, Water-wise Garden Award, Best Combination of Plant Materials, Best San Diego Adapted Garden, Perfection in Nomenclature and of course the Award of Merit for finishing on time.
