We have had a few customers come in lately asking for Echeveria 'Mahogany' or
'Mahogany Rose' to match an existing Echeveria they have growing in their garden. Sometimes we ask to see a photo of their existing plant just to be sure what they have is actually E. 'Mahogany Rose' rather than Echeveria fimbriata 'Fasciculata'. These two species can look very similar - especially when younger - however the main difference can be seen in the shape of the leaf.
5 Gallon Echeveria 'Mahogany Rose'
Echeveria 'Mahogany Rose' has a very distinct round, spade shaped leaf that is nearly flat where as Echeveria fimbriata 'Fasciculata' has a much more oval, elongated leaf which is cupped. Echeveria 'Mahogany Rose' does not grow as tall as E. fasciculata but can get a large head up to 12"-18" in diameter.
The 5 gallon E. 'Mahogany Rose' pictured above has been growing in a green house so the coloring is light brown with a green center. (On this particular Echeveria there is also an unusual green stripe running through the leaf on the left.)
Echeveria 'Mahogany Rose'
Pictured above are E. 'Mahogany Rose'. Four of these plants have just come out of the green house, the fifth has been growing in full sun showing its true colors - mahogany brown with red margins. (Top left in picture).
