Senecio oxyriifolius subs. tropaeolifolius (orbicularis)
This Senecio is a prolific bloomer producing
an abundance of yellow flowers with bloom stalks from 6 to 16 inches long. The
yellow blooms - typical of Senecios - then turn into puffy seed
balls.
A synonym for Senecio oxyriifolius subs. tropaeolifolius is
Senecio orbicularis. This is a tough succulent vine with thick, rubbery, glaucuous
foliage and an interesting growth habit eventually forming a caudiciform
base over time. It does well as container plantings, is drought tolerant
in the ground once established and can be pruned to shape. The blooms attract
butterflies, bees and hummingbirds and it is fire resistant.
